What inspires you?

Black art: written, visual, audio, or otherwise. Our art forms just have this pull, like a pulsing heartbeat or an orbit.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Dream bigger. And write it all down. Don't think about the logistics or the work to get there. Dream past anything you've ever seen. And don't let anyone speak their fear into your plans. You can make it ALL happen.

What industry blogs/websites/podcasts do you enjoy?

A few Adweek articles and writers podcasts. There's the VS podcast for poets, among so many others

What do you think the future holds for people of color in creative industries?

I think the future is very, very bright for us. We're waking up to the fact that our brilliance and ingenuity was always a part of the advertising world. Now, we're asking for everything we're worth!

Dream bigger. And write it all down.
— Edythe R.

What is your dream job?

Writing poetry on a beach for the rest of my life.

What skill(s) would you develop if you had more time?

I would branch into different writing fields such as Technical, UX, AI, etc.

What is the last thing you learned?

To advocate for myself and my work! No one's going to just magically know how dope my work is. Gotta show and remind people!

What are you working on right now?

I'm currently working on ad work for current agency, a few side projects, and my debut poetry collection.

If you could talk to your favorite creative for an hour, who would it be? Why?

Issa Rae because she is truly a visionary and lane-maker. Would definitely want to talk logistics around bringing so many of her projects to life.

What advice would you give to creatives of color looking to pursue their passion full-time?

Don't second guess your worthiness for roles that you know you can execute. Your passion and creativity are your first qualifications. Your job is to convince them of what you KNOW, which is that you can deliver. If you second guess yourself, so will the hiring team.

How do you keep your creative drip going?

I consume a lot. Going to art shows, museums, watching movies, watching other people create, and honestly just living life! So many of my ideas are sparked when I'm outside experiencing things.
