How do you keep your creative drip going?

I feel like being creative keeps you creative you know?

like trying new things, so I'm constantly finding little things that please me in that sense.

If you could talk to your favorite creative for an hour, who would it be and why?

Ice Cube. I know he has encountered a bunch of win's and losses... what creative hasn't? But I would love to speak with him because his career has longevity and the fact that he is an artist, one whom wears many hats, is amazing. I feel like I can really learn from that.

What is the last thing you learned?

You can dye fabric with avocado pits.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Forget what everyone else wants for you and do what you want for yourself.

What advice would you give to creatives of color looking to pursue their passion full-time?

Be honest with yourself in terms of why you want to pursue your passion/art full-time.

I feel like this gives you the chance to map a plan out for yourself and assess if you’re ready to be a business owner, because once you become full-time YOU ARE THE BUSINESS.

Plus, I feel like being honest with yourself from the beginning gives you the chance to really cultivate a unique and authentic brand for yourself.

What are you working on right now?

My writing/recording portfolio and my overall branding and image as an artist.

Forget what everyone else wants for you and do what you want for yourself.

What inspires you?

This is hard because I get inspiration from so many things. My mood influences me a lot, current events and the world around me, textures, bold colors, nature and creepy lo-fi hip hop beats.

Describe your dream job.

My dream job would be me doing what I loved, getting paid to do art and having the luxury to be myself.

What skill(s) would you develop of you had more time?

I've always loved photography. I would really like to take the time to master the art in front of and behind the camera.

What industry blogs/websites/podcasts do you enjoy?

  1. Everyday Struggle

  2. Bodega Boys

  3. Still Processing

  4. Villans

  5. Brilliant Idiots

What do you think the future holds for people of color in creative industries?

I think of major GROWTH in terms of opportunity. I feel like we have been and will continue to fill ourselves into these spaces that weren't really intended for us in the first place. You see more of us telling our own stories, through our own eyes, and in our own voices is and it's a beautiful thing.

We’re here and we’re thriving!
